We welcome the Tibetan and Chinese New Year of the Earth Dog. After an extreme Year of the Fire Rooster, which stirred our passions and ignited us to rise and mobilize into action, we now move into the grounding energy of double Earth in this New Year of the Dog.
Integrity becomes central in all we do, as we continue to re-build a more solid foundation that is rooted and aligned with our universal values of love and respect for all.
In this cycle we ground down and take our power back. We use discernment with what we take in and consume in all ways, be it television, social media, thoughts, attitudes, the food we eat, what we buy etc.
Dog shows us the importance of being loyal and how that deepens our relations. We are reminded to use our bark against Injustice as we team up as guardians and caretakers of our planet Earth and all that we hold sacred.
We are waking up, and together rising. Like Sting once sang, “There is a deeper wave than this, swelling in the world… There is a deeper wave than this, listen to me girl.”
Here’s the MAMMA MYSTIC Astral Insights on this 2018 Chinese and Tibetan New Year of Earth Dog. First from Narrye Caldwell, Chinese Astrologer and Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine:
“The inevitability of change is a fundamental principle in Chinese astrology. And the ability to skillfully adjust to continually shifting cycles, is considered to be a longevity art.
“Wisdom tells us, that no matter what difficulties you are facing, no matter how hopeless or frightening the situation seems, if you wait it out, a turning point will come.
“The important thing is to maintain your composure, and recognize the moment when appropriate action will be effective.
“That turning point is now. Welcome to the Year of the Earth Dog.
“…Let me begin with the element (Earth) that rules this year. Earth has the qualities of stability, nourishment, consistency, balance and harmony.
“Earth is related to the digestive system in Chinese medicine, and its function of selecting, through our appetite, the correct foods for our condition.
“When working well, our earth element effortlessly transforms food and thought, (everything we take in), into substance and vitality.
“When depleted we can get stuck, exhausted, lose our way, become obsessive worriers.
“The coming lunar year, which begins on February 16, is a double Earth year.
“Not only do we have Earth appearing in the natural cycle of heavenly chi (which progresses through Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water for two years each), but also, the Dog’s innate element is Earth…
“To make best use of this incoming Earth energy, it will be crucial to pay attention to your diet. By this I mean not just the food you eat, but everything you take in; this includes thoughts, ideas, information, and attitudes.
“Attention to what you feed yourself this year will have profound effects on the health of your own Earth element, (your ability to sort fact from fiction) and may determine whether you can rise courageously above the turmoil that threatens the village, or end up in the bog with the marauders…
“The Dog is all about loyalty and guardianship. Honest, trustworthy, and fair, Dog is a vigilant protector of friends, family, and all he holds dear.
“Some call Dog a cynic and an anxious worrier. But who among us doesn’t know this territory? When you care about something deeply, and are charged with protecting it with your life, you’d be anxious too.
“…When well supported, the best qualities of Dog come forward— corruption is rooted out, tyranny and oppression overturned, and justice prevails.
“However, when dogs are stressed, isolated, and left without compassionate leadership, (consider the poor junkyard dog chained alone outside), they can turn into dangerous unpredictable lunatics.
“This we want to avoid by putting aside our differences, seeing the best in each other, teaming up for the higher good, and generally behaving like a well organized pack.
“The restoration of justice is the opportunity of the Dog year.”

From astrologer Susie Cox:
“This year will be quite a contrast to the volatile Fire Rooster of 2017 that is just ending… The Earth Dog will be so completely different that the style of things should change to reflect the new Chinese sign…
“The Chinese Dog is loyal, steady.. fair, effective and passionate. His ideals and morals are not only above reproach, but direct the Dog’s focus.
“He is the open-minded sentry who is guarding the interest of the public at large by preserving social goals.
“The Dog is intelligent, honest, straightforward and has a sense of equality and fair play…
“Money is not the motivating factor of this sign. This animal likes to meet people half way and is good at listening and offering reason…
“The Earth element brings a sense of calm to the already steady Dog. This will bring efficient and constructive thinking; moving ahead slowly with purpose; careful use of money; kind hearted spirit and practical vs sentimental.
“The Earth Dog is quiet and will not abuse powers given to him and will be good at delegating with a keen sense of the skills of the people.
“The pendulum always swings and this is quite a large change from the Fire Rooster of 2017.”

From Astrologer Susan Lewitt:
“Dog year is a time of fairness and equality. Controversial issues are given their due, revolutions are successful, politics are liberal, and political oppression is opposed.
“Integrity and honesty are the values that lead to success under Dog’s watchful and just influence.
“In Chinese society, Dogs are the favored domestic animal because they are loyal to their owners. And like a Dog, those born in the year of the Dog possess the admirable canine qualities of loyalty and integrity.
“Direct and frank, Dog does not pay much attention to superficial details and has little patience for frivolity…
“Honest and trustworthy, Dog makes an excellent friend who always takes your side.
“Dogs won’t hesitate to make sacrifices for people and ideas they believe in.
“Stable, honest, practical, industrious, prudent, reliable, kind, and loyal are Earth qualities. The element Earth enriches Dog’s character and adds needed stability.
“The Earth Dog is endowed with some of the finest qualities of all the 12 astrology animals. can succeed in their endeavors, and possess nobility of character. They have strong opinions and are loyal to their values.
“Dog is eager to help others, loves children, and enjoys all types of games and entertainment.
“A champion of the underdog, Dog can become self righteous and indignant when witnessing unfair treatment.
“Earth Dogs’ instincts give them a clear sense of right and wrong in human relationships.
“Reliable, sincere, and faithful Earth Dog is dedicated to justice.”

Gong Xi Fa Cai to MM and everyone! Last year was the Fire Rooster. In Chinese, we call that Ding You because it carries the Heavenly Qi of Yin Fire or Ding and the Earthly Qi of Yin Metal or Xin.
The Earth Dog is called Wu Xu (pronounced like wu shee). This has the Heavenly Qi of Yang Earth or Wu but the Earthly Qi is more complicated. The main Earthly Qi is Yang Earth or Wu again, but buried within it are the Yin Fire and Yin Metal (Ding and Xin) of last year’s Rooster. This is because the Dog in Chinese Astrology is the graveyard of the season of metal which began in 2016 – the Fire Monkey – through it’s peak in 2017 – the Fire Rooster – and now is finishing in the 2018 Earth Dog.
Because we see the exact same Qi as last year in the grave of this year’s dog, we can therefore expect some things from last year to flow into this and linger on for some time. Also, since Metal is the element connected to justice and righteousness we can expect plenty more dialogue to arise around that like the #metoo movement.
Overall, as the Dog is the end of the season it does represent change and there is always a sense of challenge or discomfort when that occurs but know that within the Dog is real gold – if you dig doggedly enough you’ll find that Yin metal buried within it and whoever finds it will discover it in masses.
Within Chinese Astrology we have Five Elements – Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water – and each of these has a Yin and a Yang form, giving a total of 10 types of Qi. The three that will be superpowers this year are Yang Wood, Yang Fire and Yang Water. I would like to share these for you as I hope that by using them, you can all progress your journey better:
Yang Wood is the giant redwood tree. It is the only type of Qi that can break into the extreme Yang Earth of the Earth Dog. Within humans it also represents our spine and backbone in a physical sense and our values in a psychological sense. So this year standing for what you believe in will be more important than ever and practicing yoga asanas that strengthen your lower back will help you in this regard.
Yang Fire is the sun and it is the “Useful God” of the year in that it’s the one bringing balance to the qi of the year. Within humans, it’s represented by warmth and unconditional giving in a psychological sense and the eyes in a physical sense. Be sure to use plenty of eye contact this year, especially when asking for things and you’ll find your wishes granted far easier.
Yang Water is the ocean and this qi is what has the power to wash away the past. Within humans, it’s connected to movement and travelling as well as exercise will be of great value if you find yourself getting stuck this year. It’s also the sign of visualisation and during the Earth Dog this is queen – what you visualise will happen, but if you can’t see it in your mind’s eye, it’ll never come to pass, so practice and use this skill with your intention setting as it will naturally become easier and faster this year.
I pray that we can all work together this year to make this world a better place for the highest good of all so that when the water season begins next year, we’re all in a better place.
Much love to MM and everyone x
